Overview

The Senior Manager of Project Management:

  • Provides Project Level management support or equivalent to multiple Project/Functional Teams. In the case where it is an R&D Project, the role will include oversight of several Early Development and or Late Development Project Teams
  • Is expected to be fully independent, able to manage complex issues, leverage internal PMO standards and to use Project Management theory and practices to enable success
  • May have a unique or specific area of expertise that is leveraged for specific business purpose

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Manager (i.e Senior Project Manager) will be expected support multiple Project Teams by performing the following activities:
  • Setting up Project Team meeting schedules, creating Project Team agendas, running / facilitating the Project Team meeting in coordination with the Project Leader. Tracking, following up and closing out action items in an organized process (action item list), is required.  Every meeting is expected to have an agenda and minutes.
  • Will be able to manage all timelines in the scheduling tool being used for the project and is expected to be able to provide various timeline and budget scenarios for team discussion and decisions.
  • Will be expected and responsible for the Project budget which may include the support of funding requests. The project budget and updates to it will be expected.  Updates could be required annually, monthly or quarterly or any combination of. 
  • The Manager will be the point of contact between Project Management and the Project Team; he/she is expected to convey status updates and critical issues to and from various stakeholders across various functions including Project Management.
  • The Manager will be expected to maintain a Risk Log that will be periodically updated with mitigation strategies, approaches and status updates so as to help ensure company goals are met and that risks are properly escalated to protect the company.
  • Is expected to play an instrumental role in strategic planning components of all projects and will provide support and or help to create whatever material might be required for meetings with Sr. Management including Portfolio and/or Stage Gate material and/or higher level corporate meetings.
  • Will be expected to contribute effort towards a weekly support roll-up from multiple areas for a site-level weekly report.

 

Supervision Exercised:

  • Oversight may be required for associate and or manager level PMs

Qualifications

Education Preferred:

 

An Advanced Degree is preferred.  If the position is for R&D projects, a science degree is required.  If the position is for non-R&D projects, educational background will need to match the position’s area of focus.  Additional coursework in business and a Project Management certificate is highly desired, PMI’s PMP certification is ideal.

 

 

Work Experience:

  • 5-7+ years of Pharmaceutical experience in the same and/or related area of work.

Other:

 

The Senior Manager of Project Management (Senior Project Manager) will expected to have strong computer and analytical skills, moderate scheduling experience on plans up to 500 or more.  The candidate will need to be comfortable using MS Office Tools/Applications and some type of scheduling tool, preferably MS Project or Primavera.
